Notes on the image –  Reconciliation

The pathless woods whisper their secrets to the innocent.

One wet February morning, a nation stood in reverence as a leader conveyed a heartfelt apology to His Mother. The generous string of words was fragile, yet strong as they sought the borderless realm. For days I was in the Light as the words tumbled into the depths of my very being…until, “Australia’s unhealed past is upon you,” lay impressed across my heart. I knew I had reached a rare and beautiful place in my endless travels. My birth country had reconciled with my adopted country deep within me. Revelling in its rich mystery, I had gathered enough courage to complete the journey.
Born into post-British India, it is only right and just to mindfully and wholeheartedly embrace the British aspect of my Indian heritage, thus closing the circle and attaining wholeness.

*Audrey BEAUMONT 2010 …… Artwork in the exhibition address the common philosophical theme of existentialism, the role of consciousness in the physical world and what it means to be spiritual beings in a consciously evolving universe. My work seeks answers to the most fundamental, enigmatic question of who we are and what is the purpose of our existence. ‘Is the relationship between the mind and the brain simply a pack of interrelating neurons, activated by the senses, or is it an active, interconnecting force within a fluid, self-organising and evolutionary universe? Could then, acceptance of such an expansive worldview lead to improved moral behaviour, a greater sense of compassion and cooperation towards universal harmony and world peace?’

‘Universal Harmony’ (2010) – represents the perception of the universe as ‘holographic’ i.e. if the information stored in the part is distributed in the whole, then conversely, information in the whole, can be encoded in each part. The portrayal of one cell in this image is subsequently a representation of the whole and is symbolic of the universal interdependence between all organisms.

Last year I was the proud winner of the 2009 HILDEGARD [Acqusitive] Art Prize. Part of this prize was a two-week Artist Residency at cc contemporary art space, Gosford, which I took up in September. Usually working as a printer and painter, I took this opportunity to just draw with 6B pencils on beautiful papers. It was a very productive time for me. Through continuing this daily practice, I am finding new delights and fascinaton in observations that are finding expression in detailed drawings. With these works I feel as if I am really plumbing the depths of my being, and flying to realms that I have not encountered before.
